The Name

How does a hiphop artist come up with a name such as
daedalus perihelion?

That is perhaps the most asked question of me--Where did you come up with the name "daedalus perihelion"? Truth is, I didn't. The meaning is so deep and inspiring I know there is no way I could have thought of it. This is truly a God-inpired name and I'm so in love with it. So here's the story:

The Story of DAEDALUS

Daedalus is a character from Greek mythology. He was a great inventor and was perhaps know best for his invention of the labyrinth, a sort of prison thought to be inexcapable. Feeling that the labyrinth had not been built complex enough, King Menos of Crete sentenced the inventor and his young son Icarus to this maze. Daedalus, wanting to escape this punishment, made two pairs of wings with a wood frame and lined with feathers and beeswax.

Then they climbed to the highest part of the labyrinth and leapt from the walls into the current of the wind. At first, Icarus followed his Father's movements precisely. Soon, however, he began too prideful in his new found talent and began to loop and twirl in the air. Before he knew it, he had gotten too close to the sun which melted the beeswax from his wings. As he fell from the sky, Icarus called to his father one last time before he collided with the sea and drowned.

PERIHELION

If you look up the word "perihelion" in a dictionary, you will find a description such as this one: noun, "the point of the orbit of a planet or comet or man-made satellite at which it is nearest to the sun".

daedalus+perihelion=

So, how do the two names apply to one another. Well, daedalus is symbolic of myself, or anyone, who wishes to leave this world behind. And so, he does, using his God-given talent he creates wings and flies from the punishment he knows here on here. In doing so, he may have to sacrifice the most important thing in his life (in the story, Icarus). If the sun is symbolic of Christ then I see it this way: I will sacrifice everything that is important to me to escape this wicked world. And in doing so, I strive to reach that perihelion, that place where I am closest to the sun (the Son) Jesus Christ. Furthermore, I hope that I can show others through my music, my life, and my very being, top put everything aside and have that same kind of relationship with the Heavenly Father.

I have yet to reach my perihelion, but I pray more than anything else, that someday I will be able to reach it, no matter the cost.
